RIFLE. Cal. 40-65. S# 171580. Mfg. 1898. Oct. Special Smokeless Steel 26" barrel with full length mag. tube. German silver blade front sight & elevator rear sight. Case hardened receiver marked "MARLIN SAFETY" on top. Walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ crescent buttplate. CONDITION: over 90% original barrel blue with scattered pinprick patina, light scratches & marks; forearm cap shows 95% original blue with light edge wear. Over 80% original blue on mag. tube mixing with brown patina. Action retains large portion of original case colors showing spot fading colors in carry areas & along edges, along with scattered minute marks; buttplate shows original case colors with pinprick finish loss & handling wear. Wood shows original finish with light dings & scratches throughout. Bore has sharp rifling with frosting in the grooves. (01-29802/MD). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
